Obituary

Patrick P. Coxsey, Jr., (Pat), age 76, passed away surrounded by family at his home on July 10, 2020, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Pat was born March 29, 1944, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Patrick P. Coxsey, Sr., and Stella M. Hall-Coxsey. Pat was the eldest of seven children and was raised as an Army child. His dad served 20 years in the US Army. As an Army family, Pat spent his childhood living on different military bases throughout the country and in Germany. Pat fondly recalled spending summers at his grandfather's ranch in Oklahoma where they raised Hereford cattle and fished in the family pond. A proud member of the Choctaw Tribe, Pat often shared stories of time spent with the Choctaw relatives in Oklahoma. After traveling with the Army, the family settled in Lompoc in 1955, which became home to the Coxsey family and where Pat met his wife Holly and they raised their four children.

Pat graduated from Lompoc Adult High School and attended Allan Hancock College. He worked as an auto mechanic at Beatty Motors Ford, United Technologies, and US Civil Service. Pat enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, motor cross riding, researching, writing, photography, playing his concertina or keyboard, and spending time barbecuing with friends and family.

A ProLife Catholic, Pat was the kind of man who would share what he had with those in need. He was wise beyond his years, and once said, "Always remember those less fortunate than us need our help. To love our neighbor is the highest love we can give in this life. If we could truly see how it is to walk in another's shoes, it may change how we love." A gentle soul and skilled conversationalist, he loved to visit, often over a cup of coffee, with friends. He was humble, kind to everyone, and a very willing listener. Pat will be remembered for his kind heart and love for his fellow man and family.

Pat is survived by his wife of 53 year, Hollis (Holly) Coxsey, daughters Debbie Oliver (Joe), Rebecca Coxsey, Patricia Garcia, and son Brian Coxsey (Anna Marie), his brothers Jim Coxsey, Tom Coxsey (Virginia), and Paul Coxsey (Wendy), and sisters Cynthia Chambers-Delgado (Felix), Jane Sommerfield (Craig), and Judy Hirsch (David), 10 grandchildren: Caitlin Oliver, Ashley Smalling, Raquelle Archer, Michael Coxsey, Paige Coxsey, Victoria Montano, Gabriel Montano, Jacob Garcia, Jeremiah Garcia, and Tommie Gwen Coxsey, and three great-grandchildren: Madelyn, Liam, and Harper, in addition to many nieces and nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents Stella M. Hall-Coxsey and Patrick P., Coxsey, Sr.

A graveside service for Pat will be held on Friday, July 17, 2020, 2pm in the pavilion at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
