On Friday, April 22, 2016, the world lost a truly wonderful man. Paul A. Ortiz, a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend and veteran, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Julia; daughters Susan, Lucille (Robert), Sharon (Michael), and son Paul Jr. (Barbara); eight grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister.
Paul was born in Pecos, New Mexico on December 8, 1928. After serving honorably in the Armed Services during WWII, he moved to Wyoming where he met and married his best friend Julia, and began their adventure together. His distinguished career with the United States Department of Justice led them from town to town, but allowed him to retire in Lompoc near his family and friends.
Paul lived a rich and full life with many interests. In addition to being a lifetime member of the Elks Club, he was an avid bowler, sports aficionado, and pet advocate. His passion for helping animals in need was admirable. But his main passion in life was his family. His long retirement allowed him to be richly integrated in their lives and be a stellar role model for his children and grandchildren.
Friends and family are warmly invited to come together to celebrate his life at a memorial and celebration of life on Friday, April 29th, 2016. A visitation will be held from 9-10 am with the memorial at 10 am at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary followed by a celebration of life at the Lompoc Elks Club.
