1914 – 2008
Placida Cortez Perez, 94, of Lompoc, died on Wednesday, December 24, 2008.
Placida was born in Acuitzeramo, Michoacan, Mexico, on May 2, 1914, to Magdalena and Pedro Perez. She came from Orange County to Lompoc in 1968 after retiring. Placida was a life-long homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting, spending time with family and grandchildren. She was loved and respected as the family matriarch.
Placida is survived by her four daughters, Celia Cortez Sepulveda of Oxnard, Margarita Cortez Cortez of Los Angeles, Refugio Almaguer Perez of Oceanside, and Estela Almaguer Martinez of Lompoc; 34 grandchildren, including Ralph Martinez and Guille Macias of Lompoc; numerous great grandchildren, great, great-grandchildren, and great-great-great grandchildren, and her brother Salvador Perez Cortez of Oxnard. She was preceded in death by her son, Felipe Perez, and three sisters and two brothers.
A visitation will be held on Friday, January 2, 2009, from 4 to 8 pm, and a rosary at 6 pm in the chapel of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. A funeral mass will be held at 9 am on Saturday, January 3, 2009, at La Purisima Catholic Church with a burial to follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
