Q. D. BOBO
1925-2008
Mr. Q. D. Bobo, age 82 of Lompoc, passed away Friday, March 21, 2008 at his home surrounded by family. He was born November 5, 1925 in Bruce, Mississippi to Henry and Ruthie Bobo.
Q. D. was employed for 45 years with Southern Pacific Railroad and also worked in landscaping and lawn service. In the early 1960's, Q. D. became the first African American to own a home in the City of Lompoc. He was a fair man, and treated everyone equally regardless of race, color or gender. He never belittled or berated anyone, and always had a smile and a wave to greet people. He was also a very giving man, and would use his vacation time from the railroad to take family members to work in the fields at Hibbit's Ranch so they could earn money. When God called out for him, it was only fitting that he took him on Good Friday.
Q. D. is survived by so many who knew and loved him, including his faithful wife Eva Bobo, sisters Beatrice Wade, Ruthie Shaw, Luevorne Starling, Fannie Marizell, and Ardelia Ross, brothers Elgin and Henry Bobo, sons Chris, Victor (Kym), and Henry Bobo, daughters Rosalie (Gustavo) Zepeda, Pat (Norm) Donohue, and Amy (Refugio) Gonzales, grandchildren Synette and Henry Bobo, Jasmine Bobo, Christina and Felicia Zepeda, Israel and Sarah Donohue, Sandra Aguirre, Theresa Barlow, Rene Quintera, and Refugio, Lencho, Daniel, and Susie Gonzales, as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ruthie Bobo, and brother R. V. Bobo.
A memorial service will take place Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary with Pastor Doug Conley officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery's Columbarium.
