Rachel (Rae) Morehouse, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was welcomed to heaven on February 6, 2009.

Rachel was born on July 2, 1927 in Gardner, Massachusetts. She moved to Santa Monica, California in 1944 as a teenager to seek some California sun. She met the love of her life, Bud, at a roller rink and they married in 1947. They made a life in Lakewood, California, for many years before moving to Lompoc in 1960. Rachel worked for the Housing Authority of Santa Barbara County for 19 years and retired from there in1990. In retirement, Rachel kept active as a league bowler and volunteer worker at the Food Pantry, Community Kitchen, and member of La Purisima Catholic Church.

Rachel was preceded in death by her parents Alyre and Lydia Babineau, son Garry, grandson Joshua, and sister Lorraine DeLooze.

She is survived by her much-loved husband of almost 62 years, Bud Morehouse, and children Donna Kennard and Gayle Westerlind of Paso Robles, Sandra Kress in Central Point Oregon, Randy Morehouse in Lompoc, and Chris Morehouse in Orcutt. Rae also is survived by 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A rosary in remembrance of Rachel will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at La Purisima Catholic Church at 7:00 p.m.

A memorial mass, specially officiated by Father Richard Vega, will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at 8:00 a.m. at La Purisima Catholic Church with interment following at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
