Raymond Daniel Wilson, age 72, fell asleep in Christ on October 24 th , 2019, at his home in Vandenberg Village. Ray is survived by his loving wife Angellyn Idhamou-Wilson. Ray and Angellyn shared 51 years of marriage together. Preceded in death by his daughter Darla Ball, Ray is survived by his son Marcus Wilson (Tayna), daughter Maya Wilson and grandchildren Alexandra Benevides (Tom) and Jeremy Wilson.
Ray was born on March 28, 1947, in Portland Oregon. As a child, he lived in both Portland and Denver, Colorado. After moving to California, he attended high school at San Pasqual and college at LaSierra University where he met Angellyn and it was love at first sight. Ray and Angellyn were married July 26 th , 1968 and lived in Los Angeles, North Hollywood, Brentwood, Santa Barbara and eventually moving to Lompoc in 1978.
Ray was part of the western range Vandenberg Air Force Base for over 45 years. Ray started in the mid-70s as a systems programmer for ITT/FEC working on DC-50s IBM 360-65 mainframe. Ray then moved on to become the systems administrator/analyst for ITT/FSC on DC-60s microfiche system. In 2012 Ray took a job as systems administrator for InDyne Inc. in infrastructure on the RSA developed system where he worked until health issues caused him to take some time off to address.
Ray was a licensed amateur radio (HAM) operator. His callsign was WD6ABU which was his vehicles license plate for many years. Ray was involved with "OES" the office of emergency services. You could always find him with a radio in hand during a fire or disaster helping local agencies communicate. Ray served as an Elder in the Santa Maria Seventh-day Adventist church for many years. He was well respected within the church and taught adult Sabbath school every month. He also enjoyed flying. He took several flight lessons at Vandenberg AFB and went up several times to help patrol spotting potential fires. Ray was also an avid sports fan. He loved the NFL, NBA and MLB. He was especially fond of NASCAR. His favorite driver was Carl Edwards with team AFLAC. Ray was able to meet Carl twice at NASCAR races. Ray was an avid supporter of the local blood bank. He won awards for his donations. Ray also enjoyed golfing with his son and grandson. At one time Ray and his son Marcus were members of the Lompoc model railroad club. He had several Lionel train cars that he and his family loved to work with.
All are invited to attend a memorial service celebrating his life at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 1775 S. Thornburg, Santa Maria CA 93454. The service will begin Saturday, November 2, 2019, at 5pm with light refreshments being served after.
