IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Reginald "Reggie"
Burton O'Neal
November 28, 1934 – February 24, 2018
Reginald Burton O'Neal was born on November 28, 1934 in Whitehouse, Sumner County, Tennessee to Tom and Thelma O'Neal.
His family moved to Porterville, California when he was ten years old. He attended schools in Porterville and graduated from Porterville High School and Porterville Junior College. He served briefly in the United States Army.
Reggie worked primarily in the grocery business, however, he moved from Downey, California to Lompoc, California in the late 1970s to care for his mother and father. Even though his eyesight was failing, he cared for both his parents until their deaths. After his mother passed in 1994, Reggie lived alone.
Reggie loved to bowl and was a faithful member of the Lompoc Church of Christ until his passing. He was legally blind by 2001, and totally blind by 2012. He amazed everyone that knew him with his sharp memory and his ability to care for himself. In March of 2017, after a bad fall, he moved to the Lompoc Skilled Nursing facility where he passed away on February 24, 2018.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Anna McMurtry and brother Thomas Douglas O'Neal. He is survived by his children Regina Spoon of Stathmore, California and Randy O'Neal of Bakersfield, California; his sister Marilyn Ward of Kent, Washington, one grandson Jacob Spoon and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be Monday, March 5, 2018, at 2 pm in the chapel of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lompoc Church of Christ.
