Richard Charles Branch, Jr. departed this life into the loving arms of the Lord on Sunday, September 20, 2015. A memorial service for Richard will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2015, at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 500 East North Avenue, Lompoc.
Richard was born on August 25, 1936, in Ferriday, Louisiana. He was raised in Ferriday, Houston, Texas, El Paso, Texas and Syracuse, New York by a loving network of family. These moves likely fueled his love of traveling, which no doubt contributed to his decision to join the military after he completed high school. He served his county well for 32 years, working in the Air Force Transportation Squadron as a heavy equipment mechanic, trainer and supervisor for the majority of his career. He served in a RED HORSE squadron (Rapid Engineer Deployable Heavy Operational Repair Squadron Engineers), and during the Vietnam War he was awarded the Bronze Star in recognition of his distinguished service. During his career, he was stationed in far flung locales such as Alaska, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Germany, Minnesota (two tours!), Guam, and Iceland, and he competed his military career at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, when he retired as Master Sergeant on July, 1, 1981. While his military career was impressive, what his family will miss most was his loving guidance as a caring father and devoted husband who welcomed all and helped many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Charles Branch and Patricia Olivia Bush, his sister Doris Camille Williams, and his brother Ricky K. Branch.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Philas Louise Branch, his children Kevin Branch (Estrelle) and Tony Branch (Lynn); grandchildren Nicole and Kate Branch; niece Jacqueline Williams Dickerson, nephew Robert Williams, sisters Jeanne Marie McGuire, Barbara Winzer, Carol Thompson, and Madeline Wilson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Richard's memory to the charity of your choice, or to Sarah House, the wonderful hospice care facility home where Richard spent his final hours. Sarah House is an eight bedroom home located in Santa Barbara which provides end-of-life care home for people of low income. www.sarahhousesb.org
