Richard A. DeVaux of Lompoc died Thursday, February 11, 2016, at the age of 81.
Richard was born April 30, 1934, in Monaca, Pennsylvania to Paul and Hattie DeVaux. After graduating from high school he graduated from Golden Gate University with a master's degree in engineering. He served in the United States Air Force for nine years before joining the United States Navy Reserves. He retired after more than 20 years of service as a Senior Chief Petty Officer.
Richard married Shirley Ference in the spring of 1954. They made their home in Lompoc in 1957. Richard was employed as an engineer at Vandenberg Air Force Base for 31 years with ITT. He enjoyed playing the saxophone, dismantling computers and pulling weeds in his yard.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife Shirley in 2009. He is survived by his daughter Linda Kelleher of Nipomo, his sons Richard DeVaux of Colorado Springs, Colorado; David DeVaux of Lompoc; Robert DeVaux of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 14 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren
The visitation will be Tuesday, February 16, from 4 to 7 pm, and the funeral service on Wednesday, February 17, at 2 pm in the chapel of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary led by Pastor Duane Armstrong. The interment with military honors will be Thursday, February 18, at 11 am in the Lompoc Cemetery.
