Richard "Dick" Lee Kline was born on August 9, 1940 in Norton, Kansas to Leo Leonard and Florence Jessie (Archibald) Kline.
He was a retired Colonel Selectee from the United States Air Force. He served his country for 21 years and was a decorated Vietnam Vet. He then went to work for Martin Marietta/Lockheed Martin where he worked for 15 years.
He graduated from the University of Kansas and received his Master's degree from Boston University and U.S. International University.
Dick was and officer of numerous boards and foundations. If he felt a cause was a worthy one, he felt compelled to serve.
He never saw a bird of prey that he did not cherish, especially his beloved Eagles.
He is survived by his wife of 53 wonderful years, Lesta Kline; daughters Debby (Patrick) Davis and Kym (Kerry) Meyer; grandchildren Alicia (Tony) Greise, Zach Clifton, Casey ( Mary) Hackett, Sydney Davis, Parker and Ryan Meyer; great grandchildren Jesse James Greise and Aria Dawn Hackett; Brother Robert W. (Genie) Kline, sisters-in-law Marsha (Ray) Goff, Vicki Julian and many cherished nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Florence and Leo Kline.
He was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Friend. He always saw the beauty in a sunrise and a sunset. He loved to sing and to play golf.
Dick was a member of First United Methodist Church of Lompoc, member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity at the University of Kansas. Dick joined the Scottish Rite Masons while stationed in the Panama Canal Zone.
Dick died at Cottage Hospital on March 3, 2014 surrounded by loved ones. He never met a stranger only a friend he'd yet to make. He loved his God, his country, his family and his many friends.
A Memorial service will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church of Lompoc.
