Richard was born August 14, 1936 to Arthur and Alice Lane in Fargo, North Dakota. The family later moved to California where he attended East Bakersfield High School. He was involved in track, music and many other activities which include alto saxophonist in the school band and in a jazz band.

Richard worked at Vandenberg Air Force Base for FEC/ITT in the Space and Missile industry from 1961-1998. He held a variety of positions including Systems Analyst in Range Safety; Systems Coordinator for chase planes/space shuttle maneuvers; Area Control at the Western Test Range. Rich was very proud to work for FEC, later named Indyne. He made lifelong friends there and was well respected by his peers.

Rich was active in the Elks Lodge, #2274 of Lompoc for many years. He was a Past Exalted Ruler, on the Board of Trustees, and his primary passion was his dedication to coaching the Ritual Team in preparation for their Initiation ceremony to welcome new members. He was the Ritual Coach for thirty years and led several teams to State competition and two teams to National competition: 1987-1988 in Atlanta, Georgia and 1990-1991 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Survivors include his wife Laurie Lane, his children Chris, David daughter-in-law Gina and Brian and daughter-in-law Teresa, his grandchildren Noelle, Michelle, Owen and Kenley Lane.

Richard was loved by so many people that are going to miss him terribly. He had a loving heart that he shared with everyone. His family was his life, his purpose, his everything. He loved going camping and was "Pop" to everyone in camp.
