Vigil services for Richard B. Lopez, Sr., 63, of Lompoc, will be 7 p.m. Sunday, March 18, 2007 at the chapel of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at La Purisima Catholic Church with Rev. Tom Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Lopez was born August 23, 1943 in Monte Vista, Colorado to Joe and Regina Lopez. He was a Korean War veteran and served honorably in the U.S. Army. He worked as a communications technician in aerospace for many years at Vandenberg Air Force Base before retiring. He was a member for many years of the Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1717, American Legion Post 211, and the Lompoc Elks Lodge No 2274. His favorite pastimes included spending time with his family and especially the grandkids and he loved to barbecue. Richard cared deeply for the many good friends he made while residing in Lompoc and cherished all of the good times.
He died Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at his home.
Survivors include daughter, Rosa Lopez of Lompoc; sons, Richard Lopez, Jr., and Branden Lopez, both of Las Vegas, Nev., Michael Lopez of Lompoc and Myton Lopez of San Diego; sister, Betty Archuleta of Salt Lake City, Utah; brothers, Ernest Lopez of Huntington, Utah, Max Lopez of Apple Valley, Calif. and Johnny Lopez of Salt Lake City; 10 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, in 1992; his mother and father, a brother, Toby Lopez and sister, Mary Varoz.
Visitation hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
