Obituary

On Wednesday, December 13th, 2017, the family of Ricky A. Bartels received the news that
Changed the lives of not only his family but so many of others as well. Husband, Father,
Papa, Friend, Neighbor, and Coach, Rick was involved in a single car accident and perished.
He leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Jeanette Bartels; daughter and son-in-law Ashley and
Jimmy Ramirez; daughter Brianne Bartels and grandchildren Ecko & Ezra Robles; brother and
sister-in-law Larry and Jackie Taylor; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Tisha & Allen Levy;
Denise & Keith Solak; Armando & Jodi Telles; and nieces & nephews Kristen & Ryan Stollmeyer;
Judy & Paul Kalil; Randy Taylor; Jared & Mason Levy; Nathan & Jaxon Telles; Rick's in-laws,
Frank & Malou Telles and nieces and nephews Mitch & Sara Solak Lacey & Jacob Peck; and Kim and
Jascha Jansen, and so many other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by
parents Delbert & Evelyn Bartels and niece Kimberly Taylor.

Rick was born in Arcadia, California and moved to Lompoc when he was five years old. He played
baseball and football in high school and then joined the Coast Guard in 1976. Rick was a Coxwain
in the Coast Guard for his four years of active duty and two years of his reserve duty. Rick's career
included landscaper, nursery owner and commercial driver for United Van Lines. Rick enjoyed his
years coaching girls' softball and filming for the Lompoc high school football team. Rick loved the
outdoors and he especially enjoyed camping with his family, fishing, and all sorts of water sports.

Thank you all for the out pouring of love, support and condolences. This town and community
meant the world to Rick. He was so proud to be from Lompoc. The family is comforted in knowing
the community thought the world of him as well. Per his request there will be no funeral services
and the family will be having private services. However, the family will have a memorial celebration
of his life to be held sometime in early 2018. Information on this memorial with be forthcoming.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you donate in Rick's name to your favorite youth or high school
athletic program.
