Obituary

"R.J" Davis was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1896 in Lompoc. Being born on Christmas had privilegges as R.J. knew that at the end of the day. additional presents were coming to him and he was able to enjoy his special birthday treat, a Baskin Robbins Chocolate Mint Ice Cream Cake.

The funeral service for R. J. Davis will be on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at 10 a.m. at the Trinity Church of the Nazarene in Lompoc, followed by interment in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, October 16 from 3-8:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.

He attended local schools graduating from Cabrillo High School in 2005. R.J. was a gifted athlete who played in Lompoc Little League, Youth Football in Lompoc and Vandenberg Village, and basketball at the Lompoc Recreation Center. In high school he ran track and played football for the Conquistadors, and during his senior year assisted the team in going to the C.I.F. playoffs. He coached his little brother's basketball team at the Boy's and Girl's Club in the 2004-2005 season for his senior project.

R.J.'s life short life was filled with joy and laughter and though he was usually quiet and observant in public, he possesed the ability to express himself with written words. With those he knew well, R.J. could be himself and cut loose. It was for him to laugh and make others do the same. Those who knew him knew him to be considerate and polite. He expressed his gratitude often with "thank you", and his words and actions showed respect. His heart was one of joyfulness, and his mind, intellegent. He was someone who loved life and loved to laugh. His smile and eyes spoke volumes of what was in his heart. As fortunate as we were to know R.J., he was equally fortunate to have such a loving and caring family and a community that cheered him on.

R.J. attended Lompoc Foursquare Church with is father and family and he had a quiet yet deep love for God. He had worked at Round Table Pizza, Staples, and briefly for Allied Fence Company in Lompoc. He wanted to continue his education pursuing a career in real estate at Santa Barbara City College.

R.J. is survived by his mother and step-father, Mary Lou Davis and Keith Sullivan of Lompoc; father and step-mother, Rod and Tina Davis of Lompoc; sisters, Kanani Davis and Brittany Kelley of Lompoc; brother, Kameron B. Davis of Lompoc; aunts, Kim Wiley of Lompoc, Tonia Davis of Rex, Georgia, and Portia Davis of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and his grandfather Al Davis of Warner-Robins, Georgia. He is also survived by his cousins, Tracy Green, Randy Wiley, Jr., Breanna Coleman and Jaylon Davis-Cox and other family members, many friends and former classmates. R.J. was received with open arms by his grandma, Bea Davis, and his friends Brice Fabing, Mikey Terrones and Junior Arevalos.

He leaves behind a caring and loving community but today embraces eternal life in the presence of God. R.J.'s life was a gracious blessing to all who knew him, and the sadness that is felt by his family, friends and this community is due to the simple fact that he was and is truly a "Gift from God".

R.J.'s family suggests memorial donations may be made to a memorial fund in his name at any branch of the Santa Barbara Bank and Trust.

Arrangements are under the direction of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.
