Robert Daniel Chastain, known to friends and family as "Bob," peacefully passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at his home in Lompoc, California, at the age of 75. Bob was born on November 29, 1948, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Peggy Plender and Harold Chastain.

Bob was a devoted husband to his beloved wife Laura, whom he married on November 19, 1971. Together, they shared 52 years of cherished memories and unwavering support for each other. In addition to being a devoted spouse, Bob was a loving father to Jeremy (spouse Anna) and Amy (spouse Sam Munoz), and grandfather to Emma, Kyle, and Madelyn, instilling values of hard work, compassion, and resilience in them. He took great pride in their accomplishments and supported them wholeheartedly in all their endeavors.

Bob's commitment to his country was evident in his service in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. His dedication and bravery were a testament to his character. After his military service, he settled in Oxnard, California, where he met Laura. They moved to Lompoc, California, in 1978, where they lovingly raised their family.

Bob's life was filled with passion and joy. He was a skilled mechanic, spending most of his career at Steve's Wheel and Tire in Buellton. His love for cars was evident in his work and his hobbies.  Bob enjoyed playing softball, bowling, and golfing and had a knack for metal detecting and treasure hunting. These activities brought him great joy and created many cherished memories.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Laura; his children, Jeremy and Amy; his grandchildren, Emma, Kyle, and Madelyn; and his siblings, Jerry, Laura, and Debra. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peggy and Harold; his stepmother, Lee; his siblings, Harold, Linda, and Danny; his brother-in-law, Ivan; and his sister-in-law, Linda.

Bob will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His warm smile, gentle demeanor, and unwavering kindness touched the lives of many. May he rest in peace, knowing he was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.

A memorial service to celebrate Bob's life will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Lompoc Cemetery, followed by a reception at Beattie Park. The Starbuck-Lind Mortuary is entrusted with the arrangements.
