Obituary

Robert "Bob" King passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2015 with an angel, his daughter, Kathy, at his side.

Robert was born on October 4, 1930, in Madawaska, Maine, to his parents Lester and Stella King. He was one of five children growing up on the East Coast. Upon graduation from high school, he spent a couple years contemplating his future before he decided to enlist in the United States Air Force, where he was trained as a Meteorologist. He spent the next 27 years with tours that took him across the ocean to Korea, England, and various bases in the United States. He retired with an Honorable Discharge back in 1978 when he had earned the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. During his years of service he earned various awards to include the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Outstanding Student in Meteorology school. Although he never received a formal degree, he had a great passion for education. Throughout his lifetime he took numerous classes in a variety of subjects giving him the insight and knowledge to converse comfortably at all intellectual levels.

Robert was a tremendous athlete who played at the varsity level as a freshman in high school. He lettered in all sports he played which included baseball, football and basketball; for a brief period of time he played in a semi-pro basketball league. As he grew older, his interest in sports turned to bowling and golf. He was an avid golfer who played as a single-digit handicap in the early years that also produced five "hole-in-ones" during his life. Three of those came at his favorite golf course, Marshallia Ranch, located at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

Robert was most proud of his children and grandchildren and the accomplishments they achieved in life. As he grew older, his appreciation for his family became more evident. The last few years allowed him to reflect on what truly was important and brought joy and happiness to his life…family.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents and siblings. He is survived by his daughter Cheryl and her husband Bill and their two children Matthew and Nicholas; his son Wayne and his wife Nita and their three children Billy, Cody and Veronica; and his daughter Kathy and her husband Gary and their two children Jamie-Lee and Joshua. His devoted love for his family was unconditional.

Special appreciation is given to Al and Patricia Sanchez for the loving care they provided to our Dad throughout the years until the very end.

Arrangements are being made to have Robert laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.
