Lt. Col. (Retired) Robert Michael O'Toole
Lt. Col. Robert (Bob) O'Toole passed away on Friday, June 17, 2016, at Serenity House in Santa Barbara. He was born November 24, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan, to Robert John and Marie O'Toole. He began his education at the University of Detroit in 1956. After receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, he joined the United States Air Force in October 1961. During his 20 years in the military, he served in Southeast Asia supporting the Vietnam War and at various locations stateside. He worked largely in space and missile assignments and later acquired Master Degrees in Electrical Engineering and Business Administration. In 1983, he began a 17-year career on the Space Shuttle and Titan IV Programs at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, working for the Lockheed Martin Company.
After his professional career, Bob began a very active retirement. He volunteered his time at Queen of Angels Catholic Church as lector, fund raiser, furniture craftsman, and any other position asked of him. He also used his talents aiding the Habitat for Humanity Program where he helped build numerous houses in the Santa Maria and Lompoc areas along with helping manage the local Habitat ReStore. In addition to volunteering, he enjoyed work working, traveling for vacation and to see his family, and spending time with family and friends. Bob had a love for music and theater that has been passed on to his family. He enjoyed PCPA Theater, Lompoc Pops Orchestra, and his grandchildren's singing and theater performances.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Carol and his parents Robert and Marie and is survived by his daughters Teresa (Gary) Wuitschick and granddaughters Shelby and Ashley; Kathryn (Tony) Jaramillo and grandson Sean; son Michael (Amy) and grandchildren Colin and Natalie; and his sister Patricia O'Toole.
At his request, there will be no visitation prior to church services that will be held at Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 3495 Rucker Road, Lompoc, CA 93436 in Mission Hills at 11:00 AM on June 24, 2016, followed by a military internment at Lompoc Cemetery approximately 12:15 PM.
