Robert J. Steiger former resident of Lompoc passed away December 20, 2006, in Las Vegas, Nevada at the age of 80.
Robert was born January 3, 1926 in Ferdinand, Idaho to Paul and Clara Steiger. He was raised in Ferdinand, graduating from Ferdinand High School in 1944. Robert served in the Army in World War II and was stationed on Okinawa after the war. After being honorably discharged, he attended the University of Idaho, graduating with a bachelor of science in electrical engineering in 1951.
After holding government positions in the Northwest and at Point Mugu, he moved to Lompoc in 1964, working as an engineer and resource planner until his retirement in 1988. At the time of his death, he had resided in Las Vegas for fifteen years, traveling frequently as part of his lifelong love for the American West.
He leaves two sons, Douglas (of Washington, DC) and Gregory (of Santa Cruz, CA). He also leaves two brothers, Tony (of Las Vegas, NV) and Henry (of Ferdinand, ID). He was preceded in death by his wife Gail in 1989, with whom he shared 24 years of happy marriage.
The Mass of Christian burial will be on Thursday, December 28, at 10 a.m. at Saint Anne's Catholic Church in Las Vegas. The graveside service will be on Saturday, December 30, at 10 a.m. at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. Father Richard Vega will officiate.
