" Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
Psalm 95: 1-2
On January 7 th , 2021 brother Robert Young was called to be with the Lord. He has joined the angelic choir and continues to sing praises to his Lord and Savior in heaven. He was born to James Young and Luella Jedkins on December 30, 1934 in Gould, Arkansas and was the 3 rd of 11 children. He is preceded in death by his parents; Son: Keith Young; Sisters: Luteaner Tardy, Flossie White, and Lucy Tolbert; Brothers: James and Richard Young.
Robert lived a blessed life and to cherish his memories he leaves behind his loving wife Ruthie Young (Wilson); Daughters: Caroline (Ben) LeLonge, Pamela (Derrick) Beebe; Son: Michael Young; Grand-children: BJ Blossomgame, Veronica Perry, Kevin Young, Jasmine Beebe, Madison Beebe; Great-grand child: Caleb Hargrove; Sister: Alfreda Tolbert; Brothers: David, Benard, Isiah, and Jerry Young (Dolores). Sisters-In-Laws JoAnn, Mattie, Jewel (deceased). His nieces and nephews living close to him were like his own children: Jeannette, Delissa, Derrick, Patrick, Christopher, Carl, Reggie, Little David (deceased), Deborah, Eugene, Little Richard (deceased), Ronald, Rosalynd and a host of others. They were a very close family and most EVERYONE was made to sing in the choir (LOL!) It was common for all the family to be singing whenever they got together.
Robert enlisted in the US Air Force and US Army and served his country for a total of twelve years. Under the leadership of Fire Chief, Art Hill, he continued his career in the Civil Service as a Fireman at Vandenberg Airforce Base. Working in several positions including Chief of Fire Prevention, Robert retired as a Fire Inspector. Robert was fortunate enough to visit several countries, including Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Norway and his favorite city Paris, France.
Robert accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at a very early age. In 1966 he moved to Lompoc, CA and joined True Vine Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Carl Hudson and Pastor Floyd Wilson. In 1987, Robert relocated to Los Angeles, CA and joined True Vine Independent Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor JT Moore, Pastor Bernard Young, and Pastor Scott Wiseman. Robert served as a Sunday School Superintendent, Choir President, Bible Training Union (BTU) Leader, Deacon, Bible Study Teacher, Trustee, and Church Van Driver. Robert's rich, baritone voice was very well known to his family and friends. He sang in the choir, and was also a member of the True Vine Gospel Quartet.
He is fondly remembered by many for singing some of the following requested favorites (to name a few):
In addition, he was frequently requested to sing The National Anthem for several military events and the VFW.
Robert also played the organ and bass guitar for the choir. His favorite song to play on the organ was Maceo Wood's rendition of Amazing Grace.
We celebrate Robert's life and rejoice in the knowledge that he is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior. Do not be troubled, but find comfort in one of Robert's favorite songs:
"May the life I live speak for me. May the joy I give, speak for me. May the works I've done speak for me. When on earth I've done my best and I've gone home to take my rest, may life I lived speak for me.
The works I've done, it seems so small. Sometimes it seems like nothing at all. But when I'm gone to take my rest, I've worked hard and done my best, may the life I lived speak for me."
Robert leaves behind to cherish his memories his beloved wife, children, and extended family. He will forever be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and most importantly, a Man of God.
Poem by his dearly beloved wife, Ruthie Young
Missing you always – You never said "I'm leaving. You never said good-bye. You were gone before I knew it. And only God knows why. In life, I loved you dearly. In death, I love you still." –
Mandy… Rejoice in the presence of the Lord!
The visitation will be Friday, January 15, from 10 to 11am at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. The graveside funeral service will follow in the Lompoc Cemetery. Covid 19 protocols will be practiced at both venues. For those who are unable to attend, the graveside service will be live streamed on this page.
