Roberta "Bert" Evelyn Heter passed away surrounded by her
family on 20 October 2024 at the age of 84. Bert was born 22
September 1940 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Paul and Helen
Strickler. She was married to the love of her life Tom (Thomas
Marion Heter II) in 1959.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her
in laws Thomas Marion Heter and Ardris Zimmerman Heter. She
is survived by her children Tom(Casey), Kathy(Rick),
Jimmy(Tracey), and Johnny(Michele), her grandchildren
Paul(Claudia), Natalie(Ron), Alexa(Dom), Stephanie(Jesse),
Britni(Scott), Ruben II(Veronica), Jessica(Davey), Jackie,
Jimmy(Samantha), Ashley(Jesus), Scottie(Valerie); great
grandchildren Owen, Bennett, Tara, Tiana, Tessa, Tayla, Tommy,

Bert graduated from Chapman University in 1974, and began her
career in education for LUSD. She worked her way up from
substitute teacher, to teacher, to dean, to vice principal and
finally to principal at Lompoc High where she retired in 2001.
She continued her educational journey serving as a member for
the County of Santa Barbara School Board and various roles as a
Charter and Region Board member for the Association for
California School Administrators for 24 plus years. In her early
years you could find Bert at Lompoc Football games running the
50/50, in the cafeteria running Bingo, or watching her children
play many sports throughout their youth. Later she watched her
grandchildren run cross country, play football, and cheer for the
Braves on the sideline. You could also find her traveling the
world with loved ones. In her final days she enjoyed watching
her great grandchildren play sports in Lompoc Blue. She also
enjoyed spending time with the newest members of the family in
SLO and Lompoc, her Wednesday lunch dates for the minimum
day crew, and spending quality time with her children. She will
be remembered most for her love and support of her family, her
love of sports at Lompoc High, her love of music and theatre,
and her genuine care for all those she met.
