On May 7th Robin's courageous 18-year battle with cancer came to a peaceful end surrounded by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband Steve, sons Sean, David and Greg, his wife Sophie and her beloved grandson Benjamin, sister Sally Scott and her daughters Megan and Courtney, her brother Brad Ellis and her faithful therapy dog Angus.
Robin moved with her family to Lompoc in 1959 and attended local schools graduating from Lompoc High School in 1971. After attending Allan Hancock for two years, she married Steve and, after a brief adventure in Northern Idaho, they returned to make Lompoc their home. During the course of her working career she was in several Santa Barbara County positions and then moved to the Lompoc Unified school District until she retired in 2012. She got great joy from this – every one of the students were her kids, and her last two assignments, first at Maple High school and finally at Vandenberg Middle School, were particularly important to her.
Robin was always active in the community, participating in AYSO soccer, Cub Scouts, PTA, coaching boys and girls basketball with her husband, Leadership Lompoc and many other projects, all the while raising her family and caring for her friends. None of this faltered when she was diagnosed with cancer, and if anything it made her more determined to make everyone's life the best it could be.
Services will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013, with a visitation at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary at 9:00 am followed by a graveside service at 10:30 am at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. The celebration of her life will be at Trinity Church of the Nazarene followed by a potluck in the church gymnasium. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Stand Up 2 Cancer, or any charity of your choice.
