Rosalie Ann Forinash of Lompoc died Thursday, January 3, 2008 at the age of 65.
Rosalie was born September 28, 1942, to Nick and Effie Chuchanis in Canton, Ohio. She graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1964 and moved to Lompoc to begin her career as an educator. She taught elementary school in the Lompoc Unified School District for 39 years and retired in 2003. Her tenure included Fillmore (Miss Chuchanis), La Honda, El Camino, Ruth Elementary schools (Mrs. Forinash).
In 1968, Rosalie married Robert Forinash, also an educator in Lompoc Unified School District. They also taught Sunday school at the First United Methodist Church in Lompoc.
In 1971, Rosalie received a Master's Degree in Education from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo. She went on to earn other certificates and credentials including the Montessori Certificate from the Montessori World Institute, certification to teach limited English proficient students and a Life Elementary School credential.
Rosalie was active in many organizations, including the American Association of University Women, the California Teachers Reading Association, and the Lompoc Federation of Teachers. She also volunteered and was certified as a docent at the La Purisima Mission.
Rosalie is survived by her husband of 39 years, Dr. Robert Forinash of Lompoc; a son, Nicholas Jay Forinash of Tampa, Florida; sister and brother-in-law, Frances and David Strouble; brother and his fiancee, Andrew Chuchanis and Diane Doyle; her aunt, Basilia Zenallis; her uncle, D.D. Chuchanis; numerous cousins, all of Canton, Ohio; and, her godchild, James Lambros of Morrisville, Pennsylvania; her aunt, Rae Wilbur of Edina, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Carolyn Olson of Newaygo, Michigan; nieces and nephews; and many life long friends.
The visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary on Tuesday, January 8, 2008. Funeral services will be at the Saint Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church in her hometown of Canton, Ohio, followed by interment in the Forest Hills Cemetery.
