IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rosario Fonseca
Miclat
July 11, 1935 – February 25, 2022
Rosario "Rosie" Fonseca Miclat, 86, was peacefully called to heaven surrounded by her children on February 25, 2022. She was born July 1935 in Ft. McKinley, Philippines, the eldest of eight children to Joaquin and Carmen Fonseca.
At the age of 20, Rosario's father was granted entry into the United States of America due to his service with the United States Army as a Philippine Scout during World War II. The family arrived in San Francisco, California by boat, and relocated months later to Paso Robles, California.
It was in Paso Robles, Rosario met the love of her life, Domingo Dial Miclat Jr. Their love story began the day Rosario's father was working in his front garden, when Domingo stopped and started up conversation about the Bitter Melon plant (a vegetable and a Filipino favorite) growing in the garden. Rosario's father was impressed and invited the young soldier to dinner. A picture of Rosario caught Domingo's eye, and he was smitten. The rest is history….
Rosario and Domingo were married in Paso Robles, California on January 4, 1959. She started her life as an Army wife following assignments to Ft. Monmouth, NJ, Vicenza, Italy, Sacramento, CA, Ft. Lewis, WA, as the family grew with five children. Upon Domingo's retirement in 1975, their family settled in Lompoc, CA. There they celebrated thirty-eight years of marriage before Domingo was called to heaven on January 31, 1997.
In her later years, Rosario worked at Vandenberg Air Force Base Commissary bagging groceries. She enjoyed socializing with coworkers, helping customers, but most of all she loved the tips. The tips funded her favorite past time….Bingo! Rosario played Bingo weekly and was a regular at the Chumash Casino. She had always hoped to win big money; occasionally bringing home small cash payouts and one time winning a Ford Mustang.
There's only one thing Rosario valued more than Bingo and that was her family. She loved her children dearly, but adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren more than anything. She had a unique and special connection with each one. "Grandma Rosie" had a very giving heart, and remembered every birthday, anniversary and Christmas with a phone call, card or a gift.
Rosario lived a full life. Her fun loving spirit, laughter and smiles would light up a room. She found much joy spending time visiting family and friends, and was the life of the party at every gathering. She enjoyed cooking, bowling, designer handbags and collecting pillows, dolls and knickknacks. Shopping and being out-and-about was another one of her pastimes; rarely finding her at home granted her the nickname "Ramblin' Rose."
Rosario leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Rocky (Denise) Miclat of Lompoc, CA; Marilyn (Michael D.) Carter of Diamond Bar, CA; Leoncio Michael Miclat of Lompoc, CA; daughter-in-law, Christine Wilson Miclat of Chandler, AZ; grandchildren, Zackery Miclat of Lompoc, CA; Michael T.
