Obituary

Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great and Great-Great grandmother transitioned peacefully from earthly life to eternity on April 05, 2021, at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

Rose was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Mildred L. Steed and Grady G. Steed (New Madrid, Missouri). After relocating from Tulsa, she attended school in Buffalo, New York. While in Buffalo, she had five children: Gwendolyn, Mildred, John Jr., Angela, and Patricia.

Rose cared for many children in her life. Her door was always open to any child needing care or hungry. She used what she had to give freely and lovingly to any that came to her home. She relocated to Middletown, New York where she continued to share her loving and caring spirit as a foster parent. While in Middletown, she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Orange County Home and Infirmary for twenty-five years, before choosing to retire.

After retiring, Rose relocated to Lompoc, California where she lived with her daughter Patricia Booker and son-in-law Mozart Booker Jr. and continued to care for her grandchildren and neighboring children. While residing in Lompoc, Rose attended St. James Missionary Baptist Church where she rededicated her life to Jesus Christ. In addition to her rededication, Rose worked diligently in service to her church home by joining the Usher Board, was in charge over Kitchen, sang in the choir and assisted with Children's Ministry. She continued to work on the Usher Board until her health prevented her from working.

Rose Marie Bolden is preceded in death by both her parents Mildred L. Steed and Grady G. Steed; daughters Gwendolyn Hasbrouck and Angela Richardson; sisters Clara J. Peterson, Madalyn Lee, and brother Earl Steed. Rose leaves to cherish her memory: Sisters Dr. Donna Rice of Huntersville, NC; Delores Davis of Buffalo, NY; daughter Mildred Brown of Henrico, Virginia; son John W. Bolden Jr. (Leslie) of Buffalo, NY; and daughter Patricia Booker (Mozart Jr.) of Lompoc, CA; sixteen grandchildren; a host of great and great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

It is with great sorrow our beloved matriarch: mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother will be laid to rest.

The funeral service will be Friday, April 16, 2021, at 12 noon at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 222 North I Street in Lompoc.  Interment will follow in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
