Rosebel Virgina Scolari Cameron, 87, died January 31, 2026, in Lompoc, California, after a five-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Rosebel, also known as Rosie, was born in Lompoc on April 7, 1938, and lived in Lompoc her entire life. She was a proud member of the Lompoc High class of 1956. In high school, Rosie was very active in numerous clubs and activities, most notably as a song leader, class treasurer, and homecoming queen for her graduating class.
Rosebel received her AA from Allan Hancock Junior College and worked for General Dynamics on Vandenberg Air Force Base, Moore’s department store, and the Santa Barbara County Assessor’s office. For the last 20 years before retirement, she worked for the Lompoc School District as an administrative assistant at Lompoc Middle School and then at Lompoc High School.
But Rosie’s true calling was Mom to Renee and Rick and Grandma to Ashley and Katie. She loved her children fiercely and doted on her granddaughters. She cherished anytime she got to spend with them, making birthdays, holidays, and traditions a priority.
Rosie loved people, and everyone loved Rosie. She enjoyed spending time with the people she loved. BBQ’s, dinners out, fundraising events, Red Hatter lunches, shopping trips – any reason to be with her family and friends. Traveling was also a favorite pastime. She made trips to Switzerland, Hawaii, Canada, the Caribbean, and throughout the United States.
Rosebel took great pride in her Lompoc Swiss family roots and community. Both of her parents were born in the Lompoc Valley – she loved growing up and living amongst numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, second cousins, etc. She was a member of La Purisima Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of America, Lompoc Historical Society, Lompoc Grange, and the Lompoc High School Alumni Association, for which she served as chairperson of the scholarship committee for a number of years.
Rosebel is survived by her children, Renee Cameron Ruecker and Rick (Tracy) Cameron; granddaughters, Ashley Cameron and Katie Ruecker; brother, Jerry (Sandi) Scolari, and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, Irma (Manfrina) and Alphonso Scolari, her brother, LeRoy (Joan), and her son-in-law, Brian Ruecker.
Her family would like to thank her caregivers who gave her so much love and devotion for the last five years of her life. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in her name to either the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCan).
A rosary will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 5:00 pm at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. There will be a funeral mass at 10 am on Friday, February 27, 2026, at La Purisima Catholic Church. Burial services will follow at Lompoc Cemetery.
