Obituary

Rosie (Munoz) Castillo passed away peacefully at 9:30 PM on Sunday, October 17, 2021, at Lompoc's Comprehensive Care Center. Rosie went to be with her Lord and her husband, David Soto Castillo, at the age of 87 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Pablo Munoz, and her two sisters Gloria Herrera (Gilbert) and Carolina Rodriguez (Buddy). She is survived by her only child David Munoz Castillo, four brothers: Natalio Munoz (Meche), Eddie Munoz (Brenda), Paul and Manuel Munoz and numerous nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.

Rosie was born in Oxnard, California on November 1, 1933. She moved to Lompoc in 1934 and attended local schools. In 1950, she married the love of her life, David Soto Castillo. Together they started a family adopting their only child, David Munoz Castillo. Throughout her life, Rosie enjoyed working in her yard and playing with her dogs, Chico, and Chevy.  Her biggest joy was her son, David, who she raised as a single mom after the sudden death of her husband in 1970. Rosie was always there for David as shown in her words she always spoke to her son: "The only person you can count on is me, and the only person I can count on is you."

Rosie worked for many years in Lompoc Valley's agricultural industry. The highlights of her career were appearing in a 1962 National Geographic edition featuring Lompoc Valley's flower industry and being featured in Lompoc's first mural in 1990 which is situated at the corner of H and Ocean Street.
