Vigil services for Roy G. Velasquez, Jr., 73, of Lompoc, will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, September 11, 2008 at the chapel of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at La Purisima Catholic Church with Rev. Tom Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
A native of Lompoc, Roy was born October 14, 1934 to Rogelio and Vivian Velasquez. He attended local schools and graduated from Lompoc High. For several years, he owned and operated Roy's Auto Wrecking and Garage. Roy loved spending time with his family and enjoyed the company of his friends and neighbors for coffee at Winchell's Donuts.
He died Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at his home.
Survivors include his daughters, Elizabeth Velasquez-Warren of Nipomo and Annette Velasquez-Marvin of Loveland, Colorado; son, Roy Velasquez III of Maui; sisters, Ruth of Orcutt, Victoria Aguiniga, Esther Tobin, and Abigail Rivas all of Lompoc; brothers, Marvin Velasquez of Orcutt, David, Richard of Santa Maria, and Rosendo of Lompoc; seven grandchildren; and former wife and best friend, Rachael Thomas of Lompoc.
Visitation hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
