Ruben Perez of Lompoc passed away at age 49 on March 11, 2009 from a brief illness. He is survived by his loving parents, Antonio and Guadalupe Perez; two children, Raymond and Christina; siblings, Rosie, Alex (Ana), and Sylvia (Felipe); girlfriend, Terry Arellanes; grandchildren, four foster children, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, especially Paul Hernandez. He also had a son named Ruben that he never got a chance to know.

Ruben was a loving, happy and giving person. He loved hosting barbecues with his family and friends at his home. He shared his great sense of humor that made everyone smile and laugh-you know the kind of laugh that makes your cheeks hurt and eyes water. Ruben was always capturing those candid family moments as he would walk around and snap pictures of you unexpectedly. A true Rams fan, Ruben sported and collected Rams memorabilia that he displayed in his home and car. Ruben was a genuine and caring person as he welcomed his home to those that needed a place to stay. Ruben had many friends, neighbors, and acquaintances he met over the years. While working in his garden, he would take the time to wave to everyone that passed his home to show his friendliness and open personality.

The family appreciates and is thankful for Sierra Vista Hospital staff for the support and care they provided to our beloved Ruben.

We pray to God our Father in heaven, have mercy on his soul that he may enter the gates through his love to our Lord.

Visitation hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Starbuck Lind Mortuary, 123 North A Street. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery, 600 South C Street.
