Ruth (GG) Maestas-Martinez

Ruth (GG) Maestas-Martinez passed away at 7:05pm on September 24, 2012. She was born on December 4, 1928 to Presciliano Dolores Maestas and Refugio Pacheco Maestas in Los Pacheco (Al Calde), New Mexico.
Ruth married her husband Paul Antonio Martinez, and they had one child. In 1951, Ruth, her husband Antonio (Tony) Martinez and their young son, Charlie, moved to California. Ruth and her family lived in Pacoima, California for twelve years. Her husband bought a home for Ruth and Charlie in San Fernando, California where she stayed for the next 43 years. In 1977, Antonio passed away, and Ruth lived as a widow independently until her health and hearing started to fade. Ruth eventually moved to Lompoc, California in 2006 to live with her grandson Charlie Martinez Jr. and her two great-grandsons, Tylr and Jordan.
Ruth had many hobbies to pass her time. She had a passion for gardening and adored being out in the sun working the earth. This passion showed in every plant and every flower that adorned her flowerbeds and cactus gardens. Her flowerbeds were one of the best in her neighborhood back in San Fernando, and her cactus garden was second to none. Ruth loved to crotche, and took pride in her blankets. She always made sure each grandchild and great-grandchild was given a hand-crotched blanket to keep them warm. All of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren LOVED it when "GG" would make up a batch of warm, homemade tortillas. Ruth's kitchen in San Fernando was often filled with many different aromas from roasted chilies, to sweet pastries. Christmas was one of her favorite times of the year. She was a huge Los Angeles Dodger fan and would catch every game she could on the TV (often yelling at them!).
Ruth was preceded in death by both of her parents, her husband Tony Martinez, her sisters Louisa Maestas Honaberger, Estefana Guillen, Adela Trujillo, Lizaida Maestas and Agueda Maestas, her brothers Amarante Maestas, and Gusman Maestas.
Ruth is survived by her brother Felipe Maestas of Layton, Utah, her son Charlie Martinez Sr. and his wife Linda of Aurora, Colorado, grandsons Charlie Martinez Jr. of Lompoc, California, Paul Martinez of Los Angeles, California, and Robert Martinez and his wife Maria of Palmdale, California. Ruth is also survived by her pride and joys, her great-grandchildren Tylr, Jordan, Alina, and Ashley.
Ruth also leaves behind a huge, loving family that spans over seven states and four generations.
There will be a service to remember Ruth on Saturday, September 29 at 3:00pm in the chapel of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. The address to Starbuck-Lind is 123 North A St. Lompoc, CA 93436. All friends and family are welcome to come celebrate Ruth's almost 84 years of life.
