IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sarah Jane
Gee
August 24, 1940 – August 6, 2025
Sarah Jane Gee went home to be with her Lord after peacefully passing away at home in Lompoc, California in the early morning of August 6, 2025.
Sarah was born on August 24, 1940, in Darlington County, South Carolina, to Willie Gee and Alma Gee (Dixon). She was the second eldest of nine siblings. Her first years were spent living on a farm. When she was in first grade, the family moved to New York and settled in Brooklyn. While in high school, she studied nursing through a vocational program, from which she successfully graduated and subsequently started her proud and enduring nursing career. After a short stint as an airline stewardess.
In May 1968, Sarah moved to Lompoc, California, to join Jacob Brown, who had moved there to become a firefighter. Together, they had a son, Jacob Brown II. Jacob (Little Jake) was the love of her life, and she supported his many sports endeavors from pee-wee football through high school and collegiate football and track, and field. She did this all the while traveling to and from Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, where she worked as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She was a dedicated nurse who worked many nights and weekends during her 30 years at Cottage until her retirement in 2006.
Sarah's inner strength came from her unwavering faith in God. She faithfully served on the culinary committee and as an usher at True Vine Church in Lompoc for 30 yearswhere she stood proudly at the door of the House of the Lord. All who knew her knew that she ran a tight ship when it came to the Lord's House. In 2022, Sarah joined New Life Ministries, where she was a faithful member and dedicated prayer warrior. Even as an "elderly" member, she rarely missed a Sunday and willingly gave of her time, talent, and treasure in support of God's kingdom and New Life's ministries.
In her retirement years, Sarah enjoyed cooking and was known as the "Queen of Mac and Cheese" by her family. She also enjoyed traveling, reading, fishing, playing dominoes, spending time with family and friends, and watching her favorite daytime show, General Hospital. In her later years, Sarah could be found sitting outside in the backyard, soaking up vitamin D while working through any number of puzzle books.
Sarah was preceded in death by her mother Alma and father Willie; three siblings, Willie Gee Jr., Samuel Gee, and Tom Muldrow. She is survived by her son Jacob (Jake) Brown II (Sandy); two sisters, Edna Woodham and Mary Williams; three brothers, Larry Gee, Nashid Karim, and Melvin; and a host of nieces of nephews on the East Coast. She is also survived by her California family, who lovingly and proudly called her "Aunt Sarah" – Alice Hall, Deborah Graydon, Tyrone Graydon, Geisha Winston, Marcus Hall, Patricia Graydon, Andreu Hall, and Andrea Mentze,r as well as a host of others who were close to her heart, "The Framily".
