Shelley Brooks-Zimmerman (54) was born November 21, 1954 in Urbano, Ohio and died unexpectedly on October 10, 2009.
She was raised in an Air Force family and had lived in many places from Maine to Hawaii. She was a 1972 graduate of Lompoc High School. Shelley joined the Federal Bureau of Prisons in 1976 and retired in 2005 after 29 years of service.
After retirement she worked part time at the Vandenberg Air Force Base main exchange. Her greatest joy was working the jewelry counter. She was an avid scuba diver and member of Vandenberg's Aqualier Dive Club. She was also an avid motorcycle rider and was a longtime member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA). Her greatest joy was riding her white 1998 Gold Wing 1500.
She is survived by her husband of 20 years Bert Zimmerman, her mother Doris Wasson of Santa Maria, sister Margo Brooks and close friend Alexis Traplatti both of Long Beach, a sister Susan (Michael) Jackson of Santa Maria and a brother Eric Brooks of Santa Maria. She is also survived by two step children Aaron Zimmerman (Cathy) of Huntsville, Alabama and Suzanne Tilley of Santa Maria. She is also survived by her beloved dogs Tucker, Mickey, Molly, Casey and Peaches. Shelley will be dearly missed by family, many friends of the dive club and GWRRA, and longtime friend and former boss Jerry Van Tassel and family of Las Vegas, Nevada.
