Obituary

Shelley went to the arms of her Savior on January 15 2009, at her home in Lompoc following a fairly lengthy battle with deteriorating health.

Shelley was born on September 24, 1962, in Tucson, Arizona, to Joe and Lynn Mathis. Her family moved to Lompoc in 1966. Shelley graduated from Lompoc High School in 1980, Santa Barbara Business College in 1996 as a Medical Assistant, and Allan Hancock College in 2005. She worked in the finance department of Martin Marietta Aerospace for 13 years, another 5 years with the Santa Barbara County Probation Department, and a few years part time for the Lompoc School District. In her career life, Shelley was an energetic and competent worker. Her proficiency earned many commendations. She was married to William T. Standley in 1983 and later divorced. They had one son, Devin Blaine Standley.

Shelley was an upbeat person with an effervescent personality. She excelled in water skiing and loved traveling, camping, working crossword puzzles, NASCAR, arts and crafts, and enjoying time with her many friends and her family. The joy of her life was her beloved son Devin. They experienced many years of wonderful togetherness. Shelley was a brilliant and pretty lady spreading joy with a warm smile for everyone. She was courageous and maintained an inward beauty in spite of her many challenges.

Shelley was preceded in death by her infant brother, Michael Blaine Mathis, her grandparents, and several aunts and an uncle. Her survivors include her parents, Joe and Lynn Mathis, her son Devin Blaine, sister Sheila Matousek (John), niece Brittany, nephew Jared, great niece Amber (all of Madera, CA), her aunts Mildred Dautenhahn of Arnold, Missouri, and Imogene McLaughlin of Macon, Georgia, as well as numerous cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2009, at 10:30 am at Bethany Lutheran Church, 135 South E Street, Lompoc. A light luncheon will follow. Burial will be private.

She is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Memorials may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church, American Diabetes Foundation of Southern California, 6300 Wilshire Blvd., #100, Los Angeles, CA 90048, or American Heart Association, P.O. Box 636 Santa Barbara, CA 93102.
