Obituary

Sheri Ogletree, 67, went to be with her Heavenly Father on May 10th, 2018.

She was born on 16 July 1950 in St. Joseph MO, and adopted three days later by V. Dale Lewis and his wife Berenice. Sheri grew up in St. Joe and graduated from Central High School there in 1968. That same year she married her high school sweetheart, Greg Ogletree, her life-long love. After adding a daughter to their family in 1969, they moved to Lincoln NE where Sheri worked for the Nebraska Department of Roads while Greg worked in discount sales. After he joined the Air Force in 1971, the family spent a year in Mississippi and was then transferred to North Bend OR where a second daughter was born in 1972 and where Sheri made her decision for Christ in 1974. On 9 March 1975, Sheri and Greg were, according to the Family Bible, "both baptized upon the testimony of their faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord" by Pastor Mel Wiggers of Hauser Community Church. Later Air Force assignments took them to Tacoma WA, Great Falls MT, Lompoc CA, Rapid City SD, Omaha NE, and finally back to Lompoc again where Greg retired from the Air Force in 1999. They made Lompoc their permanent home because the weather was agreeable and because one of their daughters had settled and started a family there. Beginning in 2006, Sheri helped Greg manage Sky 2 Storage in Lompoc and she continued doing so until her disease prevented that. In the early 1990s, Sheri was diagnosed with progressive-degenerative multiple sclerosis and from 1995 on was dependent on a wheelchair, but in spite of coping with parts of her body that no longer worked right, or at all, and enduring chronic pain, she always had a smile on her face and an encouraging word for others. Her loving spirit was indomitable.

Sheri was preceded in death by her father (1962) and mother (2009). She had no siblings. She is survived by her husband Greg Ogletree of Lompoc, daughter Melanie Harris of Portage MI, and daughter Lisa (Donnie) Schuyler of Lompoc. Also by grandchildren Kayla Gareau and Marissa Harris of Portage MI; Brandi Gareau of Three Oaks MI; and Tyler (Rebecca) Ogletree, Ian Schuyler, and Ciera (Todd) Thompson, all of Lompoc. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren and a number of in-laws.

A memorial service will be held at Lompoc Foursquare Church, 125 North C Street, on Saturday, May 26th at 2pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or to the charity of your choice.
