On the bright and sunny day of Thursday, March 24th, God welcomed his daughter, Sherry Ann Reshoft, home to His embrace.
Sherry passed at the age of 79, surrounded by her husband, daughters, and many of her grandchildren. She is survived and honored by her husband of 59 years, Howard Reshoft (82); her three daughters, Debbie Ramming, Charlene Payne, and April Vassar; her loving sister Connie Chavoya and nephews Christopher Nickerson (Liz) and David Chavoya.
Sherry's three daughters brought light and new life in the form of their own families. Debbie and husband Robert Ramming, with children Adam (Camille), April (Gordon), Julie (fiance Eric), and Karen. Charlene and husband Stephen Payne, with children Jason, Sherry, Claire, and Keith. April and husband Todd Vassar, with son Ethan. Great-grandchildren gave Sherry a new dimension to her love. Jason's children Lauren, Keeli, and Logan, and Claire's daughter Lyla.
Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren all love the silly Grandma and Nana who was always seeking a way to put a smile on other's faces. Sherry could be found breaking into a silly dance, boogying down the aisles of her favorite store singing a goofy song, and sharing all the latest family updates with her friends and neighbors, who were many.
Sherry was a long-time resident of Lompoc, CA, having moved from Iowa in the early 1950s with her parents, Robert and Gladys Nickerson. After graduating from Lompoc high school in 1954, Sherry entered into a career with the signal office of the Camp Cook Disciplinary Barracks (located at the Federal Correctional Institution) located in Lompoc. It was here she met and befriended Howard Reshoft, a Military Police Officer stationed at Camp Cook. Soon, true love was forged with marriage vows on June 10th, 1956 at the Saint Mary's Episcopal Church of Lompoc, CA. Sherry turned her attention and love to their three daughters, who were raised in a home of love, and reached out to the world to find and build their own lives and families. Grandchildren gave Sherry a new dimension to life, and she embraced new activities and pastimes, including roller-blading up and down the Santa Barbara beach front with her grand-daughters.
Time spent cooking, playing, and hosting large family gatherings forged many memories for Sherry's three daughters, nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Christmas was always a highlight in Sherry's family. The family home would fill with voices and joy, not to mention plenty of Disney and home-made Christmas decorations. Sherry's cooking ranged from savories to desserts, with her pies and pot roast standing out as classic family favorites.
Sherry will be long remembered and loved. A quiet viewing and time of remembrance will be open Wednesday, March 30th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and a ceremony celebrating the life and love of Sherry will be held on Thursday, March 31st at 1:00 pm at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.
