Sonny was born May 3, 1954, at Harbor General Hospital in Torrance, California to Samuel Monroe Arnold and Walterena Quick. He was the oldest of seven children. He passed away on August 13, 2023, following a brief illness.
Sonny graduated from Pacifica High School, Garden Grove in 1971 and in October of that year joined the United States Army. He began his career with the Bureau of Prisons in 1975 as a Correctional Officer at FCI Terminal Island, California. He worked in the following locations: FCI Ashland, Kentucky, MCC New York, New York, FCI Englewood, Aurora, Colorado, and retired as Unit Manager in 2007 at FCI Lompoc.
Sonny enjoyed leatherwork, painting, riding his bike and participating in long distance bike tours throughout the tri-counties. He was a member of the Lompoc Elks and served on the board for Youth Leadership Lompoc Valley. Sonny loved to garden and his goal after retirement was to grow his and Peggi's own "salad bowls" and salsa. He enjoyed barbequing and he made the best margaritas!
Sonny was also a wine and coffee connoisseur. You could find him regularly at the local coffee shops with his "Coffee Clique".
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ronnie Arnold, stepson Christopher Martinez, niece Correne Arnold and nephew Carson Milligan. He is survived by his wife Peggi Arnold, son Scott Arnold (Tina), daughter Kelley Everling (Clint), stepdaughter Francine Martinez, grandchildren Erik, Haley, Avelynn, Gavin, and Nicholas, great grandchildren Riley and Asher, siblings Debbie, Johnny, Donald, Donna, and Annette, 13 nieces and nephews and of course, Maggie Mae.
Sonny loved his family unconditionally, kept them close to his heart and often shared his memories of them. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 28 at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. 123 North A Street, Lompoc, CA. Burial will follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
