Stella F. McKeown
1920 – 2008
Stella F. McKeown of Lompoc died Monday, September 29, 2008 at the age of 88. She was born June 18, 1920, to Harold and Margaret Parker in Manchester, England. She met her husband John McKeown while he was stationed in England during WWII. After the war they were married in August of 1945 and she came to the United States as a "war bride." She became a naturalized citizen in 1952 and a resident of Lompoc in 1966.
A lifelong homemaker, Stella completed her education by earning an associate's degree at Allan Hancock College. She was a member of La Purisima Catholic Church, St. Anthony's Guild and Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
Her daughters, Stephanie Madden of Seattle, Washington, and Peg Clesson of Lompoc, her son Ian McKeown of San Francisco, her sister Sonia Watson of England, four grandchildren, John Madden, Telli Foster, Blythe Weidner and Jimmy Clesson, and two great grandchildren, Merrick Foster and Audrey Madden, survive Stella. She will always be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Father James Johnson of the San Lorenzo Seminary in Santa Ynez will celebrate the mass of Christian burial on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at La Purisima Catholic Church at 9:30 A.M. followed by inurnment in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. The arrangements are under the direction of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.
