Sue was born November 8, 1929, to Benjamin and Ida Claussen. She graduated from St Mary's College as a Registered Nurse.  She was an instructor for Allan Hancock College and trained many aspiring nurses at the Comprehensive Care Center.  The CCC was Sue's last residence where she received care from former students.

Sue was a parishioner and long-time organist at La Purisima Catholic Church.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She enjoyed many hobbies but, truly enjoyed dancing at Cotillion Club functions and cross-stitching. Sue's career included pediatrics, school nursing, working in the LVMC Obstetrics Department, and Visiting Nurses.  As a by-product of her career endeavors, Sue authored a book entitled "The Tender Care and Feeding of Gramps." She enjoyed many hours working for the Hospital Foundation both as a Board Member and a volunteer.  Sue had a love for antiques. Coupling her love for antiques with her desire to fundraise for LVMC, Sue opened her home for many Hospital Foundation Home Tours.

A celebration of Sue's Life will be held at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary Chapel on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 1 pm. A reception will follow at the Events Mission Valley 138 North B Street, Lompoc. Sue will be laid to rest with her husband privately at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. Donations in her name can be made to the Comprehensive Care Center or La Purisima Catholic Church.

A flower without a petal
A tree without a leaf
We have lost you from our midst
But stand united in our grief.
Like a poet who can't find the words
A singer without a song
We'll call up happy memories
And keep each other strong.
Our days will seem much darker
Clouds shadowing the sun
But we'll walk forth as a family
And face the world as one.
