Obituary

Susan Harris died from complications of Lewy Body Dementia.  She was born in Seattle Washington to Peggy Leigh Somers (nee Scott) and Eugene Somers. Susan's early years were spent in the Bay area before moving to Pasadena with her mother and stepfather Bill Harris. She graduated from Alhambra High School in 1955. She then attended Pasadena City College and following graduation, moved to Hawaii where some of her favorite memories were formed. In the words of her life-long friend, Carol Nikodem, "Susan was always up for an adventure!" While living in Hawaii, Susan was asked to work as an extra in the Elvis Presley movie, Girls, Girls, Girls! Susan lived an exciting life and, lived in numerous countries while serving in the Foreign Service and with the State Department. She worked in the American Embassies of Tel Aviv, Israel, Bangkok, Thailand, and Dusseldorf, Germany. She once, had something "secret" handcuffed to her wrist as a courier for Henry Kissinger. She ultimately earned her B.S. degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, in Natural Resource Management. While attending Cal Poly, she served as a docent and Park Aide for the Parks Department at Grover Beach, California. Upon return from overseas, she worked in Civil Service, serving in Colorado, Washington D.C, and California, ending her career in California, working as a Planner in the  Civil Engineering Office at Vandenberg Air Force Base.

Susan was an accomplished horsewoman, winning numerous ribbons, on her beloved horse, Aspen Air. She was also an avid skier and belonged to several ski clubs throughout her life. She fulfilled her wish to go on Safari in Africa, as she was a great lover of animals. She loved great movies, (often being the first in line for the latest release.)  Although the "Prince" lost his way, and never found her, she enjoyed many friendships. Susan found a living and vibrant relationship with her Savior, Jesus, and last attended Lompoc Foursquare Church before her health began to fail. Prior to that, she regularly attended Vineyard Christian Fellowships, in the towns that she called home. Friends are comforted knowing that she is with her Lord, in her forever home and that we will see her again.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Peggy Harris. Susan will be laid to rest with her mother at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Meteo, California. There will be no services due to Covid-19. A special thank-you to the Lompoc Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Lompoc, California for their patient and kind care.
