In Loving Memory of Terry Nathan Cobb

Terry Nathan Cobb of Lompoc passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 19, 2021, after a valiant battle with cancer. Terry was surrounded by his loving family and friends. Terry was born on November 17, 1949, in Monterey, CA, to Billy Nathan Cobb and Ruby Ellen Neas. He came to Lompoc with his family in the mid-1950s where, after graduating from high school, Terry served his country as a member of the U.S. Army. He was assigned to the Headquarters Battery 1 st Battalion 39th Artillery at Fire Support Base Nancy, in the Quang Tri Province near the Demilitarized Zone in Vietnam in 1969-70. During this time Terry became fast friends with Kevin Anderson, Kevin Bollig, and Larry Owens. Their unit was awarded the Army Valorous Unit Citation.

After serving his country Terry returned to Lompoc to be close to family and worked for the Vandenberg AFB Hotshots where he fought many wildland fires in several states. Terry later obtained his Realtor's license and after retiring from real estate became a collector and dealer of fine antiques and collectibles. Terry enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also loved the outdoors, was an avid angler, and especially loved being on or near the ocean. Terry enjoyed fishing with his brothers whether it was fishing from shore or off a 95 ft sport fishing vessel far offshore, Terry felt at home on the sea. If Terry wasn't fishing, he and his best friend Bud Withrow would go to the base and watch the ocean
from beach chairs perched on the clifftops.

He loved riding his bike with his high school friend Mike and meeting up with the guys (Bob, Alvin, Jimbo, and Ray-Ray) for morning walks followed by coffee and breakfast at the Southside coffee shop. Terry selflessly cared for our mother who had a stroke and was unable to live alone. They moved in together and Terry, as well as other family members, cared for Mom for many years at home. Terry cared for so many people throughout his life and was incredibly generous in all aspects of the world. Terry dedicated much of his time to helping people in need – whether it was a ride to the doctor, or talking someone through a difficult time, or mentoring others through his own life experiences. Terry was excited to have reunited with his friends and fellow servicemen from Vietnam. He was grateful to have reconnected with his friends after so many years. Terry also had a love for animals, especially his Dachshund, Bismark, and his Yorkie, Gunner.

Terry is survived by his Mother Ruby Johnson, Sisters: Billie Hinton (Bob) and Sharon Claycamp (John).
Brothers: Mark Hopson (Jennifer) and Shawn Johnson (Shawn). Nieces: Camren West, Brittney Hinton
(Steven), Paige Martinez (Jadyn). Nephew: Dion Pate (Lindsey) and 9 Great Nieces and Nephews.

A Celebration of Terry's life will take place in November at Johnny's Bar and Grill.
