Burial will follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.

Thelma was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Marian Medical Center in Santa Maria, California.

Thelma was born June 26, 1947 in Sardis, Georgia to the late Mr. Johnnie Baker Jr. and Mrs. Catherine Howard Baker. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Springfield Baptist Church in Alexander, Georgia. She attended public schools in Burke and Chatham County, Georgia. She graduated from Sol C. Johnson High School in 1965, attended Savannah State College and briefly taught Elementary Education in Hardeeville, South Carolina. She later attended Allan Hancock College and obtained a degree in Liberal Arts and a Nurse's Assistant Certification in 1975.

Thelma worked at Lompoc Convalescent Care Center from 1975 to 1984 and Lompoc Hospital from 1988 until retiring in 2007.

On July 19, 1968, she married Melvin Flowers and to the marriage one son was born, Vincent Marquis Flowers. God blessed Thelma and Melvin with 43 blissful years together. Her heart was his and his heart hers...a beautiful match made in heaven.

Thelma loved to travel and travel she did until her health began failing. Every where she went she touched the lives of many people with her beautiful smile and generosity, and maintained her trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. She will be especially remembered for her quick wit, spirit of adventure, and jovial attitude. She was a joy to be with, loyal and honest with all that knew her. Thelma was an avid reader. Her collection includes over 500 books ranging from biblical, political, social, cultural, cooking, and non-fiction.

She was a member of Saint James and later joined True Vine Bible Fellowship in March 2006. She loved her church family and was committed to sharing the gospel.

Survivors include her husband, Mr. Melvin Flowers, son, Mr. Vincent M. (Elaine) Flowers, mother, Mrs. Catherine Baker, sisters, Vernita Baker of Sardis, Georgia and Janice Baker of Woodbridge, Virginia, brothers, James (Alice) Baker of Houston Texas, Glen Bonner of Sardis, Georgia, Charles Baker of Las Vegas, Nevada, Johnnie (Barbara) Baker III of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Robert Baker of Atlanta, Georgia, and Dennis (Janet) Baker of Savannah, Georgia. Also surviving are two loving granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Kandace Flowers.
