Theodore Douglas Guevara "Ted", 67, beloved husband, father, brother, friend, and most importantly "Papa", was embraced by our Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, February 3, 2011.
Ted is survived by beloved wife of 50 years, Janie Guevara; daughters, Julie (Angel) Galvez, Pati (Edward) Vargas; son, Ernie (Eileen) Guevara; grandchildren, Olga, Angel, Tony, Maria, Marissa, Mark, Danielle, Samantha, Brian; great grandchildren, Jasmine, Anthony, Jillian; brothers, Robert (Pegge) Guevara, Charlie (Mary Jane) Guevara, Arthur Lopez; sisters, Alice (Bud) Hunt, Pat (Frank) Guiterrez, Carol (Dave) Almanza; sister-in-law, Madeline and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by beloved brother-in-law, Frank "Jimmy" Cousins.
Ted was born February 13, 1943 in Santa Barbara, California. He attended Santa Barbara High and served in the Army. Ted was one of the first employees at the Santa Barbara Zoo and worked there for 36 years. He was a man of many different talents and trades but took great pleasure in constructing beautiful garden displays, waterfalls, and landscaping. Ted had a great passion for animals and enjoyed spending time in his garden feeding the birds. He had a great sense of humor and always had a positive outlook on life. He was loved by all who came into contact with him and always helped anyone in anyway he could. He spent much of his time with his family, and his most important role was "Papa" to his grandchildren who were his heart, pride and joy of his life; a truly rich man is one whose grandchildren run into his arms when his hands are empty. Ted will always be remembered for his golden heart.
Services will be held at the Santa Barbara Zoo on Friday, March 18 at 5:00 p.m.
