IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Therese
Means
May 26, 1937 – July 19, 2021
Therese Louise (Zimmermann) Means went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 19 th , 2021, at the age of 84. She was born in Milwaukee, WI on May 26, 1937, to William Carl and Priscilla (Bourke) Zimmermann. She was the last of four girls and is survived by Mary Langlois (Tuscan AZ) and Shirley Zimmermann (Ventura). The third girl, Barbara, passed away years ago from Cancer. Their story is very much like the book "little Woman" Therese spent her teenage years in Tuscan, AZ, and graduated from Salpointe (Catholic) High School in 1956. She met her husband James (Jim)Means in 1958 and they married on February 21 st , 1959, in Tuscan. She worked at several jobs and helped Jim earn a BSEE degree. The family moved to Camarillo, California after Jim accepted a job with the Navy at Point Mugu, California. There she started a successful business called "Camarillo Western Wear". They were very active in square dancing and were members of the "Valley Stars" of Somis and the "Barn Burners" of Camarillo. She sponsored Youth Football and Baseball Teams, and she worked for the Battered Woman's Shelter. She raised three sons: James, Jr., William, Charles, and a daughter Vicky. They have ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
In 1979 they relocated to Lompoc when Jim accepted a job at Vandenberg Air Force Base. There she started another successful business "Dolls of Means." She was very active in the "Valley of the Flowers Doll Club". There were also active in the Lompoc Valley Antique Auto Club", where she provided rides in her 1966 Mustang Convertible to local dignitaries in the annual "Lompoc Flower Festival". She had a terrible Staff (MRSA) infection in 1992 and had to be hospitalized at USC for some time. With an artificial hip from the damage that was done, she still managed to travel by Cruise Ship over much of the world and to have Loved all those around her.
Unfortunately, Therese developed Alzheimer's disease and had been forced to live the last years of her life in Memory Care Units. After 63 years of Marriage, Jim still says "I would gladly do it all again!"
Visitation will be held at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary, July 22nd, 2021, from 12-2 pm. Followed by a Funeral Service at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers please donate to any Alzheimer's association of your choice.
