Thomas Clancy
1922 – 2009
Thomas N. Clancy of Lompoc died Monday, May 25, 2009, at the age of 86.
Thomas was born August 3, 1922, to Norbert and Bernice Clancy in Glendale. He was raised and educated in Eagle Rock, graduating from Eagle Rock High School.
Thomas served in the US Navy from 1940 to 1960. A Pearl Harbor survivor, he served on the USS San Francisco and USS Gambier Bay. During the Korean War he fought in the battle of Leyte and received a medal of honor.
After his discharge from the Navy he settled in Lompoc and worked in civil service at Vandenberg Air Force Base until his retirement in 1982.
Thomas loved to fish and help those in need. He was known as the honorary mayor of Gaviota.
He is survived by his son John Clancy of Lompoc, son Patrick Clancy of Santa Rosa, daughter Joyce Schaper of Yorba Linda, daughter Erin Scott of Buena Park, daughter Colleen Crisp of Clover, South Carolina, brother Bill Clancy of Banning, 16 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his ex-wife and friend Alberta Mae.
Cremation will be followed by a celebration of his life on Saturday, May 30, at 12:30 pm at the Gaviota Pier. The arrangements are in the care of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.
