Obituary

Thomas F. McNamee of Lompoc died Thursday, April 23, 2015, at the age of 82 due to complications of pneumonia.

Thomas was born November 4, 1932, in Grand Forks, North Dakota to Thomas and Evelyn McNamee. He graduated from the St. James Academy High School and later completed his education by earning an associate's degree at Allan Hancock College.

Thomas married Darlene Johnson in May of 1953. He joined the United States Air Force and served during the Korean and Viet Nam wars. His family moved to Lompoc in 1960, where he served as a missile technician at Vandenberg Air Force Base for 21 years. After his retirement as a master sergeant he owned and operated Tags Sporting Goods in Lompoc for 23 years.

Thomas was active in the community serving on many boards and committees. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. He coached Little League and Babe Ruth baseball, youth football and basketball at the Boys and Girls Club. He enjoyed sports, Family gatherings, traveling and the LA Kings.

Thomas is survived by his wife of 61 years, Darlene McNamee of Lompoc; his sons Steven T. (Loudrie) McNamee of Lakewood, California, David L. (Linda) McNamee of Lompoc and Craig R. (Lorna) McNamee of Lompoc; eight grandchildren, Tommy, Casey, Derrell, Leslie, Michael, Madison, Kailey and Cade; four great grandchildren, Cayden, Malani, Samantha and Riley; his brother Robert McNamee of Florida; his sisters Judy Stephenson of Las Vegas, Rosie Boese of Las Vegas, Margaret Kilmer of Las Vegas and Pat Hedrickson of North Dakota. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Jackie and Larry, and his daughter Julie D. Taaffe.

The visitation will be on Saturday, May 2, starting at 9 am, followed by the funeral service at 10 am at the Bethany Lutheran Church. The burial with military honors will follow in the Lompoc Cemetery. His family requests that memorial donations be made to Lompoc Babe Ruth Baseball or the American Cancer Sosiety.
