IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thomas Stuart
Twells
October 18, 1934 – February 22, 2026
Memorial Service
St. Mary's Episcopal Church
Starts at 11:00 am (Pacific time)
Thomas ‘Stuart’ Twells passed away peacefully at home on February 22, 2026, surrounded with his family by his side. He was 91 years old.
Stu was born on October 18, 1934, in Quebec, Canada to immigrants from England. He grew up in Canada and then moved to the United States in 1979. He grew up with a strong work ethic and deep appreciation for family values that shaped his entire life.
He graduated from the Acadia University in Nova Scotia, Canada with a degree in engineering. While at Acadia, Stu proudly played hockey and formed friendships that lasted a lifetime. In high school, he played hockey and was a champion pole vaulter and earned numerous awards in track and field.
Stu worked for Johns Manville for 30+ years as a project engineer, where he was respected for his knowledge, dedication, and steady leadership. After retiring, he continued sharing his expertise as a consultant and he worked in the wine industry in Los Olivos.
For 42 years, Stu called Lompoc home. He embraced life with enthusiasm, especially when it came to sports. A true winter sports enthusiast, he enjoyed downhill skiing, hockey, curling, cross-country skiing, and, most memorably, snowball fights with his children. In the summer months, his passion turned to golf. He was deeply involved with Mission Golf Club (formerly Vandenberg Golf Club) and remained an avid golfer well into his late 80s. One of his proudest moments came at age 80 when he scored a hole-in-one—an achievement he celebrated with his golf buddies.
Stu is survived by his children and his cherished grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sonia, whom he now joins once again. Stu will be remembered for his steady strength, playful spirit, love of sport, and deep devotion to his family. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, perseverance, and quiet kindness. He will always be dearly loved and profoundly missed.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate the life of Stuart Twells on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 2800 Harris Grade Road, Lompoc, CA 93436. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the church in Stuart Twells’ memory.
