Vera Jean Horton
(October 21, 1926 – June 5, 2016)

Jean Horton was born in Illinois to Frederick J. Halleman and Marion H. Kemble Halleman on October 21, 1926. She married George Bernard Donnelly and during the years George served in the US Navy and the US Air Force, they lived in New Mexico, Alaska and Louisiana before moving to VAFB and Lompoc, CA in 1963.

Jean was a Red Cross volunteer at VAFB Hospital and worked with Dr. David Gordin. She was encouraged to attend Allan Hancock where she received a degree in Medical Assisting. She then worked with Dr. Gordin at the Holloway Medical Building as his Medical Assistant, Office Manager and Building Manager. She worked as the Building Manager for over 40 years, retiring at the age of 82.

Jean was a member of the Lompoc Doll Club and Miniature Club, making many of her own dolls as well as collecting them. She was active in serving with the Martha's Guild at Saint Mary's Episcopal Church and attended services there for many years. Most recently she performed with the family renaissance musical group, "The Merrie Wreath Concert", playing the bodhran drum and tambourine.

Jean is survived by her children, Catherine (Michael) Dupuis of Louisiana, Mary Pat Dickinson of Pennsylvania and David (Koreen) Donnelly of Lompoc, California; 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and her brother, Charles Halleman of Montana. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Lois Brown, brother, Fred Halleman and son-in-law, Charles Dickinson.

A memorial service and reception will be held on Friday, June 17th at 11 am at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 2800 Harris Grade Rd., Lompoc. As Jean was a Cancer Survivor, in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Cancer Society, St. Mary's Episcopal Church or charity of choice.
