Vernon Munoz Howerton

November 11, 1929- July 17, 2023

It is with a heavy heart that the family of Vernon Munoz Howerton announces his passing on July 17, 2023. Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.  Vernon was born to Lucretia 'Billie' Munoz and Eldon 'Bill' Howerton on November 12, 1929, in Lompoc, Ca.

The second eldest of five, Vernon attended Lompoc High School prior to his service in the United States Army.  Upon his return from the Korean War, Vernon worked alongside his father Bill doing concrete work. Later Vernon married Pearl Rose Nickson from San Luis Obispo, his wife of nearly 70 years.  Vernon attended Allan Hancock College with an interest in Geology.  Vernon then worked for the United States Forest Service as a Ranger at Hull Mountain in Mendocino County, before pursuing his lifetime career as a General Bldg. Contractor in the Lompoc and Five Cities area. During this time, Vernon also worked on the Cojo-Jalama Ranch doing adobe restoration.

Throughout his life, Vernon was interested in hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, woodworking, and barbequing. Vernon had a special knack for storytelling and a passion for family ancestry. Vernon and his wife Pearl traveled much of the state of California, parts of Mexico, and other Western states in their RV and always came back with a story to tell after their most recent adventure. Vernon was a hardworking, caring gentleman.  He always had a special place in his heart for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His contagious laugh and gentle nature will forever be remembered and missed.

Vernon is survived by his wife Pearl Howerton.  His three daughters are Marlene Elizabeth Alexander (Dewey), Linda Diane Daniel, and Patricia Anne Ernberg (Mike Eittreim).  His grandchildren Bill Alexander, Matthew Ernberg, Steven Ernberg (Monique), and Shelby Daniel (Christian Larsen), and his two great-grandchildren Tatum and Ensley Larsen.  As well as his two living brothers Gene and Harvey Howerton and his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased grandson Jarad Howerton Buchanan and brothers Lester and David Howerton.
