Obituary

Victoria "Vicky" Aguiñiga

May 31, 1931 – June 10, 2023

With saddened hearts we announce the sudden passing of Victoria "Vicky" Aguiñiga, or as affectionately called by her children "Old Biscuit/My Viejita/Madrecita" on June 10, 2023.  She was 92.

She was born May 31, 1931, to Rogelio and Vivian Velasquez in Seeley, California.  She moved to Lompoc in 1934 and attended Artesia School, Lompoc Valley's first country school.  Originally located on Artesia and Central Avenue and now a historical museum located on Chestnut Avenue.

She met her husband, Juan, and they were married in 1956 in Lompoc, California and raised five beautiful children.

Vicky truly loved her profession as a flower hybridizer and worked for several of Lompoc
Valley's flower companies (Burpee Seed Company, Bodgers, Denholm Seeds, and Oglevee, LTD). She also often described the hybridization and emasculation process/creation of new and colorful flower hybrids.  During her tenure at Oglevee the namesake geranium "The Victoria" was named in her honor. She was also featured in the Lompoc Record several times highlighting her contribution to the "Valley of the Flowers".

Her greatest joy was cooking for her children and grandchildren.  She also loved to embroider, read her classic books, complete word search puzzles, and watch the Game Show Network with her little companion dog Flor by her side.  Victoria was loved by everyone and would light up a room with her warmth and love.

Victoria was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years Juan Antonio Aguiñiga, and siblings, Roy Velasquez, Abigail Rivas, Esther Tobin, Richard Velasquez, Eva Velasquez, and Vivian Velasquez. She is survived by her children, John Aguiñiga (Julie), Sally Nava, Eva Barajas (Manuel), Jaime Aguiñiga, Susan Aguiñiga, eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. Also survived by her siblings, Ruth Lewis, Marvin Velasquez, David Velasquez, and Rossi Velasquez.

The visitation will be Wednesday, June 14, from 4-8pm with the recitation of the rosary at 6pm in the chapel of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.  The funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 15 at La Purisima Catholic Church in Lompoc.  The interment will be in the Lompoc Cemetery.
