Virginia Patricia "Pat" Day
February 29, 1944-Feb 20, 2013

Pat Day was born in Boston, Massachusetts on Leap Day, 1944, to John Daniel and Mary Virginia McCormack. She moved to California in 1971 and worked as a nurse at St. Francis Hospital before being stricken with a debilitating arthritic condition that took its toil on her life and her ability to walk. When Pat was young, she fell through the ice and injured her legs from the cold water, which brought on her arthritis in her later years. She was married to the love of her life, Paul Franklin Day, who pre-deceased her on July 9, 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Virginia Anne (Ginny) Phelps, her two grand-daughters, Nicole Ann and Noelle Lynne Phelps of Lompoc; her step-grand-daughter Melanie Phelps of Lompoc; her sister, Ann Marie Roskey of Medfield, Massachusetts and brother Jack McCormack of New York, NY.
Pat was an active member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church and when she was still able to walk, assisted in the ministry of the church by being a greeter at the 10 o'clock service on Sundays. She remained an active member of the church in her devotion to prayer for others through the ministry of the prayer ring. She loved to be teased about her birthday because by her count, she was only 17 years old! Many of our members have fond memories of Pat from her years of devoted service to our church. She was visited every Sunday by members of our Lay Eucharistic Visitors, and had a life-long love and devotion to the Holy Eucharist and a deep and abiding belief in the power of prayer. She was a part of us, and we will miss her greatly.
