Obituary

It is with profound heartbreak and sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mom and Grandma, Virginia "Gina" (Padilla) Grimes.

Gina was born in Topeka, Kansas on January 29th ,1942 and coincidently passed on her 81st Birthday, January 29th , 2023. She was born to Yldefonso and Simona Padilla and had two brothers, Alfonso and Joey and six sisters, Mary Carmen, Hope, Mary Louisa, Mary Magdalena, Lisa and Gina's twin sister, Rosa Maria.

Gina was Daddy's little girl, petite and a sweet kindhearted gal with a feisty attitude.

At eighteen, Gina worked at the local movie theater as a ticket taker and met a dashing young man named Ronald Mark Jamison, who was in the U. S. Air Force. They married and had three daughters, Kim, Michelle and Diane and were stationed at Vandenberg Air Force Base. They also lived in Germany and eventually divorced.  Gina came back to Lompoc to raise her three little girls.

Gina worked endlessly to support her family, renovating apartments and did whatever she needed to do to take care of her three little girls.

Gina suffered a great tragedy, in March of 1984 when her oldest Daughter, Kim passed away.

Gina worked at La Purisima Mission for approximately twenty-five years. When she started, she did not have a vehicle and faithfully rode her 10-speed bike to work every day, rain or shine. She loved and took care of the mission as if it was her own. She was forced to medically retire in 1999.

Mom, Grandma, Cinnamon Grams, as she was known, loved her family and fur babies Spike and Sissy very much.

Gina was known for her tacos, posole, tamales, haircuts, smashing hamburgers along with video recording the family. She was also one helluva dancer and could twist like no other.

Gina met and married Fred Grimes in 1985 and resided in Mission Hills for the remainder of her life and passed at home surrounded by her family.

Gina is preceded in death, by her parents, brothers, three sisters, daughter Kim, and grandson, Michael Mark.

The Family would like to thank caregivers, Donna and Sokie, orthopedic surgeon Dennis Blackburn, Superior Home Health & Hospice for their assistance in Gina's care and a special thanks to our very own LVN, Nurse Gelli.

Gina is survived by her daughters Michelle and Diane and son-in-law Leyho, grandchildren, Lico, Trisha and Moni; great-grandchildren Gelli, Chris, Juan, Nick, Blayce, Marci, Eli, Giselle, Milie, Anthony, Taylor and Teagan; sisters Mary Magdalena, Lisa and her twin Rosemary; special family members in Kansas, Tish, Lisa, Gary, Alice, Aaron, Jodi and Zina; husband Fred and fur babies Spike and Sissy.

Our familia is heartbroken and thankful for a wonderful life lived. RIP our "Cielito Lindo", she is no longer in pain. We will love and miss you forever.

Visitation will be held at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary on Friday, February 24th, from 10 am to 12 pm, Church services at Queen of Angels Catholic Church at 1 pm, followed by burial at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery at 2 pm. Please join the family for a Reception at the Events Mission Valley venue, 138 North B Street in Lompoc following the burial.
